Not Dead

August 22nd, 2008 · 49 Comments

Sorry for the lack of updates. Warren delivered the revised draft of the script in early June. It has generated inquiries from some interested in releasing Castlevania as an animated feature film instead of a direct to DVD. Discussions are ongoing.

  • Farfan666 // Aug 22, 2008 at 10:06 am

  • SharonVBelmont // Aug 22, 2008 at 10:33 am

I think an animated movie would be more interesting, it could get to more public =D totally agree!!

  • truefaiterman // Aug 22, 2008 at 10:40 am

There is no doubt about this. Castlevania must be on cinemas!!!

  • Josh Dunford // Aug 22, 2008 at 11:37 am

Seems like you could do more, content wise, with a Straight-to-DVD.

  • SomaCruz // Aug 22, 2008 at 1:46 pm

Just amazing… I wana see an example soon

  • Kosso // Aug 22, 2008 at 3:15 pm

I wana see an explample too, I’ll be waitin’

  • Erimocard // Aug 23, 2008 at 5:30 am

Though I would certainly like to watch a Castlevania movie in the cinema, I think it would probably work out better straight-to-DVD. It is not like the average viewer knows Castlevania. If it goes directly to stores on DVD, it would definitely sell very good, since every fan of the franchise would buy it.
Then again vampire-movies and animated movies always sell good in the cinemas, I think.

  • Anthony Noto // Aug 23, 2008 at 10:31 am

A film?! Thats great news. Keep up the great work!

  • Legion // Aug 23, 2008 at 11:13 am

of course, that is a great idea, castlevania go to the big screen xD a film is better than only make the dvds :)

  • Jerkofwonder // Aug 23, 2008 at 11:44 am

I knew this thing wasn’t dead. Wouldn’t you be competing with the live action film if you did that? I think that would be a bad decision, as it would take away from the gross of both movies. Konami would be competing with itself.

  • Kosso // Aug 23, 2008 at 3:58 pm

oh great this is awesome, I’ll be watin’ here : )

  • Genya Arikado // Aug 23, 2008 at 5:46 pm

The argument of the live action film sux, my hope is in this cartoon.

  • Christopher Belmont // Aug 23, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Animated feature film huh? any word on what animation studio’s are being considered yet - I think whether you want the film to look anime or NOT your best bet is to get a japanese studio (preferably madhouse!!!) i mean they approach animation in an entirely different way to the west & unless the animation is on par with Disney, Don Bluth & other great western creators (& if it’s going in the direction of feature film it should certainly match the standard of any kids animated feature) then it’s just not gonna hold your adult audience you can get away with dodgy animation with kids TV series ( or adult comedy cartoons) but with a animated feature film aimed at adults!- I’d be expecting a high standard.
I didn’t mind the hellboy cartoons but at times the animation still made me cringe, & that conan cartoon mentioned earlier just looks cheesy so PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! go to the pro’s the japanese have been making cartoons aimed at mature audiences a lot longer than most western studios, & if you don’t do that then atleast set the bar as high as most animated feature films for kids! seriously! if this gets released with a higher attenion to mature content than animation I aint even spending the money see it at the cinema let alone buy it.

    Excelente!
    Un Cartoon de Castlevania.
    Me parece una gran idea.
Definitivamente apoyo con muchas ganas este proyecto. Va a ser interesante verlo. Y ya quiero comprar el DVD! (Vivo en la Ciudad de Mexico) ^^

  • Ryan // Aug 24, 2008 at 5:52 pm

Bit of a double-edged sword, obviously. You wouldn’t get to do as much as you’d like in a feature film as you would with a direct-to-DVD release, but you’d get both people who were fans of the series and people who just liked the way it looked– as was mentioned, this is more of an adult-oriented film depicting badassery first and an installment of the Castlevania series second, so with that in mind, you’d have fewer people scratching their head in puzzlement over the plot. Not only that, you’d spare everyone the clusterfuck of a live-action film and replace it with something that’s, oh, I don’t know, NOT TOTAL SHIT.

Putting it in theaters might work well, but then, I’m one of those suckers who will pay for it twice, seeing it as a feature and buying it on DVD later on both for the collection, and to see everything that got cut out the first time around.

  • xKaerTx // Aug 25, 2008 at 8:51 am

    would be better for cinema
    —————————————
    nose ingles T_T

    lo quiero ver en cine

  • Lotus Petal // Aug 25, 2008 at 10:39 am

I hope this film does well. It sounds awesome, the excerpts provided have been awesome (though I’m a little wary of the goat discussion, but that’s like what, a ten-second mention?)

Cinema or straight-to-DVD, I’ll be sure to check it out when it’s released. :)

  • Shinma // Aug 26, 2008 at 4:25 pm

I certainlly hope this turn out a good flick to be shown in theatres, certainlly that’s afterall a lot better than the coming Live action flick; but I dunno how wise that would be marketing way, Castlevania animated vs Castlevania Live Action…

  • TonyTheTiger // Aug 27, 2008 at 4:27 pm

It’s funny about the gushing above for a Japanese studio to handle the animation. American animation, Japanese animation…it’s all done by Koreans.

I keep reading about the “adult” nature of the film. I just hope it’s “adult” in term of thematic maturity rather than gratuitous maturity. If I may, I’ll use The Lion King and Heavy Metal 2000 as examples. The Lion King might be more appropriate for a younger audience but it is much more mature thematically and emotionally than the fanservice-filled, ultimately plotless Heavy Metal 2000 which is “mature” in the way a 13 year old thinks of maturity.

I just hope that this film has a good direction as far as dramatic depth goes and avoids the ultimately forgettable gratuity and fan-service of something like Heavy Metal 2000.

  • MAX_LE_FOU // Aug 28, 2008 at 3:49 am

Great news! I was hoping the project was still on… and now it could get even better! Thanks for the update!

  • LBD "Nytetrayn" // Aug 29, 2008 at 3:29 pm

I too am a bit concerned that if this went into theaters, it would very likely be toned down to a PG-13 level, losing a lot of its distinct flavor, to say nothing of a certain scene…

  • zead-the-undead // Aug 30, 2008 at 5:45 pm

    I have some little questions…
    When had this project started?
Is it still too far from its end??
Do you guys must pay Konami for using their trademark?

sorry for the english thanx for the attention:D

  • Christopher Belmont // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:07 am

I for one think that aiming for a cinema release will force the creators to approach this movie a little more sensibly, it’s fair enough to wanna make a film for adults but not every adult likes over the top violence, Sex etc (besides films whose major selling points are these 2 things generally come across as cheap to me) I mean castlevania isn’t exactly resident evil, as far as i know castlevania games have only ever had an M rating (in Aus), my biggest concern about this film is it’s gonna wind up MA or R - which might restrict it from some castlevania fans

  • Gaunt // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:47 am

just as long as it stays true to the source material without deviating from it. i would also like for it to stay as true to its original edit as possible without hollywood gettin in the way.

too bad that may only be just a dream : \ i see more room for failure if it was in theater than direct to DVD.

  • Jerkofwonder // Sep 14, 2008 at 10:37 am

People stop complaining about the live action film here. The script that was reviewed was an old one that has since been thrown out. The new script is actually about Trevor and the events of Cv3 (just like this film) and is insanely true to the source material, even referencing Leon. If you want to see the script leak (not the whole thing) e-mail me at wonderb7@hotmail.com You don’t have to trade, I’ll give it to anyone for nothing.

  • Arikado // Sep 19, 2008 at 1:02 pm

    Wow. The movie lives on.

  • Akamujo Hunter // Sep 19, 2008 at 6:16 pm

It’s great that you guys are doing well on the production but if you want to make the film seem more alive and true find some voiceartist to voice the characters.

This totally make it intriguing indeed

  • Simon Belmont // Sep 24, 2008 at 8:13 pm

I would have no problem paying $5.00 in a theater to see it, feature film FTW.

Also, if its possible, could you guys post screenshots of the film?

  • Arikado // Sep 26, 2008 at 12:55 pm

    @Jerkofwonder
E-mailed you for the script. Curious to see what you have…

  • nintendo roms // Oct 9, 2008 at 4:56 am

Wow I’m very excited to see this movie. This is the first I’ve heard of it !

  • Tranceplant // Oct 12, 2008 at 9:01 am

In theaters?? This would be awesome.
    But I wouldn’t mind straight to DVD…

  • Arikado // Oct 13, 2008 at 1:27 pm

I would prefer straight to DVD.

  • Shunhades // Nov 10, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I’m glad you guys aren’t dead, I can’t wait to actually see it when it comes out. I’m also hoping there won’t be a ton of fillers in the series.

    Tons of fillers = bad

  • Shunhades // Nov 14, 2008 at 12:52 pm

Wow I need to learn to read better Lol.

Castlevania 3 was a great game, so I can’t wait to see the film. Whether it’s straight to dvd or to theaters. I’d go see it either way. =)

  • Arlington Cruz // Nov 22, 2008 at 10:45 pm

Wow that sounds awesome! I am glad to check back after a long hiatus to hear the good news . Now the important point to attack is to make this movie have the true feel of castlevania for those non gamers watching something castlevania related for the first time.

  • Bobby Belmont // Nov 24, 2008 at 7:19 pm

Just don’t screw it up like other Konami manifestations on film *coughSILENTHILLcough*
Keep us posted, though. A Castlevania movie would blow my mind, and possibly pocket book.

  • Forscythe Hellborn // Dec 14, 2008 at 8:17 pm

I would sooner have it out in cinemas first. With the right publicity, even people who don’t know Castlevania would go see it. I just started playing “Castlevania Judgement” for the Wii, and the opening scene is AMAZING! Although I would love to see that kind of detail in the actual movie, which would easily complete with “Final Fantasy Advent Children”, I don’t know if a live action film would be good or not. I would happily lend my services if a live action film was being created. I don’t suppose anyone else has heard the rumors about “Final Fantasy Advent Children” becoming a live action film like I have? (P.S. - If you haven’t played “Castlevania Judgement” for the Wii, TRY IT! Amazing game, although the controls are a little annoying.)

  • Booger A. // Dec 24, 2008 at 3:58 am

Straight to DVD, please. I’d hate for unnecessary concessions to be made to the existing work, although I’m quite sure I’ll be seeing the damn thing either way.

  • Arikado // Jan 17, 2009 at 10:45 am

Could we have another update now? Pleeeeaaaassseee?

  • Christopher Belmont // Jan 19, 2009 at 7:58 pm

I Second that, updates are far less frequent nowadays and I don’t know whether to interpret that as a good thing or a bad thing - how about some reassuring words for those of us still following
I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated by all

  • Forscythe Hellborn // Jan 21, 2009 at 9:13 pm

I’d say. All the movies coming out (at least where I live) are garbage. I know the movie wont likely come out anytime soon, but still. If you own the website for publishing a new movie, I would have to think “keeping an eye on it”, would be in your best interests.

  • Christopher Belmont // Jan 24, 2009 at 7:44 pm

You know it never crossed my mind that this Movie could be 3D and now that i think about it 3D would probably suite it alot better - look up “Castlevania - Pachinko Promotional Movie” and you’ll probably see what I mean - if they can render up such stunning sequences for a simple slot machine then creating an awesome 3D movie should be no problems.

  • Forscythe Hellborn // Jan 26, 2009 at 7:27 pm

I’ll admit, that video was pretty good, but I think “Castlevania Judgement” for the Wii is MUCH better. If anything, it would “boil down to” what is cheaper. On one side, we have animation. Extremely expensive no doubt, but so much more things can be done, (also in better detail). Where as using real people, might be a little cheaper. Less time consuming I would assume. Finding the right people might be hard. By all means, I’ll help out any way I can (hint hint).

  • Christopher Belmont // Feb 7, 2009 at 3:47 pm

I think i remember hearing somewhere that 3D animated films can be comparatively cheaper to live action ones - it might have been the Beowulf DVD i think? I suppose it could make sense: you could cut costs on actors by having a small group doing all the motion capture, & you don’t have to physically make props and sets etc there all virtual too so no material costs.
But who knows what they plan on doing with this film because at the moment it doesn’t seems to be going anywhere any time soon (which is driving me crazy!)

  • Arikado // Feb 14, 2009 at 8:26 am

    Not dead, eh?

  • Arlington Cruz // Mar 9, 2009 at 7:16 pm

It would be nice to see another update.

  • Forscythe Hellborn // Mar 16, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Personally, I think the owner of this site quit. If someone was making a movie such as this. You would think they’d keep their website updated for the fans. I’ve already grown bored of the idea. (Yet I still want to be in it!!!)

  • Jerkofwonder // May 1, 2009 at 6:21 am

Nobody quit, most animated movies don’t even have blogs like this. So no news on here doesn’t mean anything.
