One big story, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, told across three movies. Grant is not in the first movie. From Warren’s earlier post Cutting The Pirate, here it is again -
When he does turn up, I’ll probably use the alternate spelling of Grant DiNesti.

Three movies with 80 minutes each… you can tell one hell of a story, and still include lots and lots of undead ass-kicking.
Nice.

Threeee movies? Hot damn, I love you Warren.
Maybe since it’s three movies long, we could see some Hector and Isaac?

Awesome. I love you.

This is going to rule beyond all human comprehension.

Hells yeah! Standing ovation! This will be one trilogy to sink your teeth into!
Andre Breder // May 6, 2007 at 2:32 pm
A trilogy?!??! Cool!!!! So Grant still have a chance…

I’ve been a fan of the series for a long time and I can understand having to adapt a movie from one medium to another and changing things around a bit. Cool!
My only concern is that I’ve been a huge anime fan as well and am a bit pickie about the kind of anime I let in my house - only the good kind.
Can you guys describe what kind of art style you guys are going to portray in the film? Or just give me a point of reference?

Hmmm… I can picture it a bit now.
Part 1: The Backstory. How the death of Lisa drove Dracula mad, forcing Alucard to oppose his father’s evil. Trevor, heir to the Belmont family and wielder of the vampire killer whip, must rise to the challenge of defeating Dracula.
Grant may be mentioned in passing as being the leader of the Dracula resistance, but is not on screen at this time.
And Sypha is shown studying white magic as she works with the church.
Part 2: The Battle Begins
Trevor sets out to stop Dracula, and begins his journey through Wallachia. Along the way, he meets Sypha and Grant who join him on his quest. This part ends when Trevor and co. encounter Alucard.
Part 3: The Final Showdown
With the four warriors gathered together, they finally make it into Dracula’s castle where the Count awaits them in his throne room.
That’s kind of how I see this trilogy breaking down. And I can not WAIT to see the end result!
I expect this to be frakkin’ awesome!

Right on Otaku-Man, however I expect a forest skeleton ambush on Trevor in part 1. I mean, we gotta see Trevor get his hands dirty at least once in the first movie. Not just a whole “You are the only one who can stop Dracula”-BLAH BLAH BLAH sorta thing.
Dialogue’s great but you gotta have action to draw in the newbies. ‘Nuff said.
Otaku-Man // May 7, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Works for me. And skeleton ambush in the forest? Sure. Also, zombies.
Zombies always start things off.

Zombies… Do they barf like in Lament and Curse though?
Baramos // May 7, 2007 at 6:48 pm
The best things about zombies are the humorous ones (like the Hari Krishna zombie or the Santa Claus zombie from George Romero’s flicks).
Don’t know how you could get a good laugh out of any of these zombies, though, it being the 13th century and all…but it must be done!

Instead of using animation, why don’t they ask for more budget from Konami and make it into a full-fledged Hollywood blockbuster. Just let Castlevania’s Japanese creators to have a say in the film or get Peter Jackson on the project. I’m sure it will do better than the Belmont-wanna be VanHelsing of Hugh Jackman.
Pedro // May 8, 2007 at 8:09 am
Because Paul W. S. Anderson is already making a Castlevania movie, and because we all know it’s going to suck.
Otaku-Man // May 8, 2007 at 8:41 am
@Whiplash4ever
What Pedro said. Plus, to truly get the awesomeness of Castlevania down, it really deserves an animated treatment. There are some things that look better drawn than in real life. Like James Jean’s artwork.
@Arikado
Dunno if they’d barf or not. I think the only real thing the zombies need to be are decomposing corpses of definite nastiness. Barfing, I think, is optional.
I’m thinking, most of hair fallen out, dangling eyeballs, skin hanging off bones, ragged clothes, and the usual groaning and moaning.
Not to mention a desire to feast on flesh.

Pedro… ever heard of a self fulfilling prophecy?
Pedro // May 8, 2007 at 11:29 am
I know what you mean, but come on. Anderson has made nothing but crappy movies so far. Well, except for Mortal Kombat: that movie was so cheesy, it was good.
Arikado // May 8, 2007 at 11:31 am
To Baramos and Otaku-Man
What you said about zombies is a must Otaku-Man. Baramos, zombies barfing (again, as portrayed in Lament and Curse) would be helarious!
Trevor: Now I shall whip you!
Zombie:BLEEEEHHHH!!!
Trevor:Is the tounge in that barf from a dog?
Zombie:No. A goat.
Trevor:Ohhhhh… Ewwwww…
Trevor whips the zombie. Like in the games the zombie falls apart.
Jerkofwonder // May 8, 2007 at 3:22 pm
Mortal Kombat is supposed to be cheesy, event horizon was great. RE1 was decent, same with AVP. ANd you will be hard pressed to see someone as critical of AVP quality be it books comics games anything.
Jerkofwonder // May 8, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Just give it a chance. If it’s crap, it’s crap. But by hating already… you lose out on any possibility of goodness. And what justification could that have?
Whiplash4ever // May 9, 2007 at 3:39 am
Looks like pre-production troubles at my favorite Konami game series. They better not mess up the movie and make it into VanHelsing-like crap. Do Anything! give Peter Jackson anything he wants! Castlevania deserves a great director! and not a director with unproven qualifications. It shudders me when I think about the past Street Fighter movie.
Pedro // May 9, 2007 at 8:12 am
I thought Event Horizon was crap, but I guess it varies from person to person.
Resident Evil was watchable as an action flick, mainly because I was never a fan of the franchise. But I surely do not want Castlevania to be done in the same way RE was.
Alien versus Predator was awful. I was really excited about it, being a sci-fi fan and all, but it was really, really bad.
Seriously, in most discussions about Anderson, the only good thing that is said about him is “well, at least he’s better than Uwe Boll”.
Otaku-Man // May 9, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Wait, Anderson’s not directing this. Isn’t he doing the live action one instead?
Come to think of it, is anyone here part of that production?
Kevin? Warren? Any insight?
~Otaku-Man
Pedro // May 9, 2007 at 5:35 pm
Thankfully, Anderson is nowhere near this.
sagemaster762 // May 10, 2007 at 11:00 am
I can’t wait to see this movie. I have a question is the animation going to be anime or american style of animation?
TheUnbeholden // Dec 8, 2007 at 10:23 am
