Grant “The Nasty” Danesti, landlocked pirate extraordinaire, King of the Seven Hilltops, must stop Uncle Joey and the Tanner Family from completing their demonic ritual to open a gate to hell and bring on the second coming of late 80’s American sitcommery. Armed only with his extensive knowledge of sailing and his immunity to scurvy he seeks to rid the land of the people who made his family into a TV pilot that will never see the light of day…forever!
I could talk about how I’ve liked the development so far and have yet to comment but I’ll get straight to the point. I’m a huge Castlevania fan.
Having said that I realize that in film, some things just have to go. In Curse of Darkness, the Ps2 sequel to III Grant isn’t even mentioned, so what the hay.
Back to the bad language thing, Castlevania has never held back on gore, but it has held back on language, so as long as you don’t drop the f-bomb I’m fine.
I’m hoping for a SotN looking Alucard, he was badass.
The only thing I really want to see in this movie, in plenty of whip action. It’s a whip, not a spiked ball and chain. So I would like to see how one would have to use a whip for fast moving battles.
Wish they would move away from the morning star thing.
In a game you need to visually change something to make it look like an upgrade, but for a movie, it would just come off a little stupid, thats what I think.
Keep it as a leather whip, black, maybe 6-8 feet long.
I’m all for this to be it’s own take on the “concept” of CV3. In no way should anyone sacrifice good character development and interesting plot points just to squeeze in a pirate. Grant, albeit a cool character in a video game, won’t be missed if the story is good.
Well, considering that the whip pretty much worked in full form in Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness(no steel chains and spike balls here), I’m confident we can see major badassery with Trevor’s moves. Some of Leon’s movements in LoI was pretty cool looking!
Chi no Rondo’s intro shows it as a chain dealie too. But yeah… it doesn’t matter as long as it’s a whip of SOME sort. Unless it’s a lightsaber…those rule
Grant has always been one of my favorite video game characters simply because we share the same name, and it’s either him or the guy from Fatal Fury. I was very excited to hear about this movie and the chance that the great Warren Ellis would breathe some life and real story depth into an otherwise worthless character. Now my hopes have been dashed, my dreams shattered.
You know, I’ve really got to become famous. I can shatter a person here or there, but never en masse. ‘Tis The Life, Mr. Ellis.
So since you are raping my entire childhood, I should expect to see the Carebears mob He-man and then slaughter each other while fighting over the juicier bits?
Don’t worry, I expect Grant will be in the trilogy as he IS one of the three companions that join Trevor on his quest to destroy the Count.
The thing is that as leader of the rebellion against the Count, his background is not as complex and doesn’t need as much coverage in the first movie. The first movie will most likely just focus on the backgrounds of Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard as they are the most meaty.
Grant, not so much.
However, he will join them most likely in the second movie once Trevor breaks the curse on Grant. There, Grant may explain what happened to the band of villagers he led when trying to destroy Dracula.
Important thing is that he won’t be a pirate, more like a very agile villager of Wallachia.

Three films about Castlevania 3, or three films each focusing on a different game?
Jared Good // May 4, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Warren, do your thing. It’s not like the game will disappear once the film comes out.
Garou // May 4, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Or three films about cutting the pirate out?

I can see it now. Castlevania 2: Cut That Out!

The middle film is indeed called CASTLEVANIA: I RAPE YOUR CHILDHOOD.

I’m afraid I don’t have a problem with “the f-bomb.” It’s all just language to me.
Arikado // May 5, 2007 at 11:11 am
I’m just an authentic kind of guy. Whatever. Just don’t give Castlevania a “Grand Theft Auto” language rep.
Question: Will Alucard look more or less like the Symphony of the Night and Dawn of Sorrow Alucard?

I’d like to see the whip primarily, but I’d also like to see it upgrade into its morningstar form at some point in the film.
And three movies are a very very good thing. These will help ease the inevitable pain that will be brought about by Paul Anderson’s CV film.

I am curious what voice actors will speak in
a) American accent
b) British accent
c) Eastern European accent
I really hate it when in Hollywood movie, character speaks perfect English but in accent with no reason..

Yep, the morning star thing makes no sense. Besides, all the newer games depicted the Vampire Killer as a leather whip anyway.
P.S: Warren is actually posting! Can I get your e-autograph? =P

Um, no. LoI and CoD did, but all the recent 2d games still depict is as a morningstar, (unless you count CotM, but that was a while ago.)

Sorry, I haven’t played a portable Castlevania game since Castlevania Adventure.

The vampire killer has always been refered to as a whip. Regardless of what is seen in the game. It has always been called a whip.
