Welcome to the production blog for the upcoming animated movie based on the classic Konami video game, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. In the coming weeks and months this will be your source for exclusive behind-the-scenes news and information on the production. We have a great creative team in place with award winning writer Warren Ellis working on the script and Eisner Award winning artist James Jean set to art direct and begin visual development in February. Check back here often for posts from Warren, James, and other members of the production team.
A special thanks to Chris McDonnell for the design and set-up of the site.

Thank you! I am happy this is being made, it’s one of my favorite games of all time and Trevor is one of my all time favorite characters, ever since I played the game in the 90s!
I am so happy! When is it coming out?

Awesome. I can’t wait to hear more about it.

CASTLEVANIA has always been one of my favorite video game series, and I’m extremely happy to see this being done — more importantly, by people capable of doing it right! I’ve already got a lot of faith in Warren Ellis, and I’m truly impressed with James Jean’s initial art designs!
I’ve always feared that if these games were adapted to motion picture, be it live action or animation, the people involved would fail to capture perfectly their look and feel. I’m inclined to say that fear can now rest in peace…
Thank you, and keep up the good work!

I’m looking forward to this with a lot of anticipation. I’ve been a fan of Castlevania for quite some time. I’ve always adored the sidescrollers, music and artwork (The ones Kojima did… before the last two DS). Knowing that Ellis and Jean are working on this makes me happy. I’ve previously read comics from transmetropolitan and it seems I’ve had James Jean in my bookmarks for a while (which I don’t recall why… but if it’s there it’s because I like his drawings)
I’m actually curious as to what type of music you’ll put in this movie? Vampire Killer is a must.

Good luck with the project. Just remember to listen all the feedback from all the gamers and castlevania fans alike.

That is really amazing, and I think this is a great time to release a film about the video game. The genre seems to really be at a new point, and with most of the newer castlevania games having really neat animated scenes I think it will fit well. Congrats on the movie, and congrats for being an artist that actually broke into the industry haha.
One question though is the movie going to have a lot of adult content like rated R? Or PG 13? I remember watching the Van Helsing cartoon (christmas present) and the opening scene threw me for a loop when the woman’s throat was cut into. Just wondering.

I just hope that the plot is decent and they don’t make two dimensional characters…
Certainly the setting of CV3: DC has strong narrative possibilities: The relation between Alucard and his father, Trevor and Sypha, etc…
It would be interesting to see an approach similar to Symphony Of The Night…
I’ll be looking forward to see how the project progresses…
Good Luck!

Castlevania is the best, most-underrated series of all-time and with Ellis driving it, my staff and I cannot wait to see this amazing franchise treated with the respect it deserves. No offense to Paul Anderson

This is excellent news - being both a fan of Ellis and Castlevania, I hope this movie will be remembered as a masterpiece!
Please, do not, huh, dumb down the script or anything else just because “it’s based on a videogame” - don’t treat this subject lightly, it doesn’t deserve to!
